Kat Austen has been selected as a finalist for the Falling Walls Art&Science Award from the #GlobalCall24.

Her EMAP project Stranger to the Trees, which was elaborated during her residency at WRO Art Center is a multimedia art installation raising questions about the impact of microplastic on trees, proposing coexistence as a model by which to understand the evolving relationship of ecosystems with human traces. Through the transdisciplinary research for the artwork, Kat Austen also had the chance to collaborate with scientists and they found the first recorded evidence of the uptake of microplastics by tree roots.

"Stranger to the Trees" is currently on display at the group show #emap perspective 2 at gnration in Braga until 17 August 2024.
