Lavanderia a Vapore is a regional dance centre based in the buildings previously occupied by the laundry of the former royal asylum Regio Manicomio in Collegno, Turin metropolitan area. The renovated spaces include four rehearsal studios, an adjustable studio theatre for 250-500 spectators, a foyer with exhibition area suitable for small performance acts, also provided with a refreshment bar, an outdoor space that can accommodate up to 5000 people and an adjacent accommodation unit comprising of small studios with kitchenettes.
Thanks to a shared governance that engages several and diverse organization, it practices horizontal models and a strategic vision on a European scale in order to create a space devoted to mobility, reception, and “border-crossing" of artists in temporary residencies. This space is an open and attractive space for international creativity within a project that combines support processes to emerging creations, innovation, and multidisciplinarity. The activities combines residency, research and ateliers plus presentation, public program and participatory processes that involves civil society: thanks to this consistent resonance with the current changes, Lavanderia is keen to promote an intensive cross pollination of languages, looking at how bodies, digital and other elements can collide.
Due to its multifaced identity, it is member of EDN european dance house network and ENCC european network of cultural centres.
