The Goethe-Institut is the official German cultural centre worldwide. We program arts encounters across the genres, organise residencies together with our local partners, offer international liaison work and consulting. Throughout its network of 160 institutes in 94 countries, the Goethe-Institut promotes European cultural understanding, offers language courses, educational services and current information about Germany. It celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011, the Canadian institutes their 50th a year later. In Toronto, we focus on film and visual arts and on shifting focus themes, which currently range from participatory practices to urban futures.
