Andrius Arutiunian shows his EMAP project The Irresistible Powers of Silent Talking in the exhibition Positions: Elsewheres at Stroom, The Hague.
The exhibition shows works that are connected to the here and now in the city, but at the same time relate to "elsewheres". Those places can be community centers, national borders or even outer space. Starting point for the artists is The Hague; the city that, as an (inter)national center of power and authority, derives its identity largely from its relationship to other places.
The Irresistible Powers of Silent Talking is an installation investigating automated deception recognition systems and their use in border surveillance. It is based on the iBorderCtrl algorithm which was developed to scan the facial micro-expressions of migrants entering the EU.
The group show takes place from 25 February - 2 July 2023.
