In Choir of Kin, the collective Transformative Narratives led by Lena Kuzmich and Tony Wagner invites you to take part in an immersive audiovisual experience. Choir of Kin is an installation that will be complemented on three evenings - from 14 to 16 March - by a performance with seven musicians and performers. The voices of numerous life forms come together in a fictional habitat, and exploratory sounds that resound in the interwoven scenery celebrate the coming together of human and non-human participants in this cross-species affair.

The piece is rooted in Transformative Narratives' studies of symbiosis, the entanglement of landscapes and sympoietic world-building. A queer understanding of kinship is applied to ecological, biological and music-theoretical research. In this respect, practices of active listening and interaction with non-human participants are fundamental approaches.

Acoustic and textual intervention by human performers meets soundscapes generated from data of non-human life. Occupying the hall of brut nordwest, the artists form a choir with the scenery with which they interact sonically. This Choir of Kin represents a resilient yet dissonant system for dealing with ecological and intergenerational trauma.

The interactive installation and performance takes place in the framework of imagetanz 2024 at brut nordwest in Vienna from 14 - 16 March 2024.
