Karolina Żyniewicz in collaboration with Mihael Giba and Gjino Šutić
Karolina Żyniewicz is a Berlin-based artist & researcher & educator, a liminal being, existing and performing between various contexts and disciplines. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Visual Arts of the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, and holds a PhD in cultural sciences (title obtained in the transdisciplinary Nature – Culture doctoral program at the Faculty of Artes Liberales of the University of Warsaw). While executing art&research projects, mostly based on biotechnology and medicine, she also conducts ethnographic and autoethnographic observations, which constitute the basis for her reflections on the role of non-human actors in creating contemporary culture. In her work, she underlines the epistemic and didactic dimensions of art. From 2016 to 2018, she cooperated with the education departments of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, running workshops and giving museum lessons for regular audiences and with accessibility for visually impaired and deaf visitors. She uses these educational experiences in her own liminal practice. She is a member of The Eco-and Bioart Lab (hosted by Linköping University), a collaborator of Art Laboratory Berlin, and an associate editor of the Technoetic Arts journal.
Mihael Giba is a multimedia artist. In his artistic practice, he combines traditional and digital techniques and technologies to create multimedia, often interactive, installations that describe, document, and question contemporary society, frequently with a touch of humor. He has exhibited in around fifty solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. He collaborates on multimedia projects with artistic and cultural organizations, institutions, and many Croatian artists. In addition to his artistic work, he develops various commercial multimedia projects. He was a finalist for the Radoslav Putar Award in 2013 and the HT Award in 2010 and 2018. He won the 3rd prize at the 33rd Youth Salon. Giba graduated in painting in 2008 from the Academy of Arts in Split. He is working as an Artistic Associate at the Academy of Applied Arts at the University of Rijeka.
Gjino Šutić is biotechnologist, innovator, educator, new media artist, producer, project and program manager. He is Director of Universal Research Institute (UR Institute) HR (2013. - ), Director of Gen0 Industries d.o.o. for research and development of innovative technologies, HR (2014. - ) and President of Association of innovators of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, HR (2020.-). Since 2012, active as multidisciplinary researcher and internationally awarded innovation developer, he is specialized in general biotechnology (with focus on highly experimental, environmental, medical and industrial), new media art (specifically biological art and hybrid science+tech related art), emerging fields of science and technology (medicinal chemistry, biomechatronics/bioelectronics, biosemiotics), science communication and STEAM popularization through citizens science and experimental practice. He holds a wide portfolio of internationally acclaimed projects supported by the European Commision through Horizon, Creative Europe, Erasmus+, ESF and related programs.
