Projekt Atol was first established informally in 1992, and has been registered in 1994 as one of the first non-profit institutions in Slovenia. Since then Projekt Atol is a hub for research in arts, transdisciplinary production of art projects, tactical media, situation building, publishing, education, community platforms … We produce projects and artworks dealing with communication infrastructure and scientific & technological research. Projekt Atol also includes the rx:tx music label and the Arctic Perspective Initiative (API), which is dedicated to creative, geopolitical and infrastructural cooperation in circumpolar areas. Projekt Atol co-organizes PIFcamp and has recently concluded coordination of the Feral Labs Network. It is also a member of the project Green Revisited. We are also a member of konS ≡ Platform for Contemporary Investigative Art.

In 27 years of operation, the institute has participated in key developments in various fields, from connecting non-profit art organizations, internationalization of new Slovenian art, establishing conditions for participation of artists, scientists and engineers in joint projects, space research initiatives, establishing European art research networks and projects of cooperation of non-profit art research institutions with companies.
