symbiomatter: experimental arts lab is an incubator for an emerging community of bioartists and biohackers in Bulgaria. It offers a platform for dialogue, exchange of ideas and practical collaboration between artists, scientists, engineers, and other enthusiasts who are interested in exploring the potential of biotechnologies for aesthetic expression, cultural critique and social transformation.

We hold educational activities, lectures, and workshops. In the long term, we aim at establishing a low cost equipped BSL1 laboratory driven by open source do-it-together ethics, which will allow hands-on artistic experimentation with living systems and critical explorations of life sciences principles and technologies.
