Cornelia Sollfrank

DE

Cornelia Sollfrank (Berlin) is an artist, researcher and lecturer.

She studied free art at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and at the HFBK Hamburg. At the University of Dundee (UK) she did her PhD on her own artistic work, digital media and network cultures as new forms of political organisation, authorship and intellectual property, and gender and techno-feminism. The thesis, entitled Performing the Paradoxes of Intellectual Property, addresses the conflicting designation between art and copyright and led to her current field of interest: digital commons and its aesthetics.

A pioneer of internet art, she has earned this reputation through numerous projects: The net.art generator - a web-based art producing machine, Female Extension - her famous hack of the first internet art competition, and also Old Boys Network (1997-2001) - as part of her activities referring to cyberfeminism, to name a few examples.
